FSU's CITI Courses
Florida State University offers several convenient online Responsible Conduct of Research training courses through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program.
The completion of one of these courses satisfies the National Science Foundation's RCR training requirement for all postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students funded by the agency.
Students should complete one of several available CITI courses as determined by their area of study and status as a postdoctoral, graduate, or undergraduate student. Courses specific to the following areas of study are offered: Arts and Humanities, Physical Science, Biomedical Science, Social and Behavioral Science, and Engineering. Students should select the course for the area of study most relevant to their work.
CITI courses consist of seven modules which take about 45 minutes each to complete and seven case studies which take about 10 minutes each to complete. Each of the seven modules is designed to provide basic information and guidelines specific to one of seven major aspects of RCR: Research Misconduct, Data Acquisition and Management, Responsible Authorship and Publication, Responsible Peer Review*, Responsible Mentoring, Conflicts of Interest*, and Collaborative Science*. The case studies are designed to provide examples of how the material presented in the modules may apply to “grey” situations that frequently arise in research settings. A short quiz must be taken at the end of each module and case study. An aggregate score of 80% for all assigned quizzes is required to complete the course successfully. When students complete the course successfully, they will be able to print a “completion report” listing all completed course sections and respective quiz scores.
