Each semester Nancy Marcus [Dean of The Graduate School] and Eric Barron [President of The Florida State University] host a reception to honor graduating doctoral students.
As a tradition, the FSU President invites members of Fellows Society to his house each year for a social event. This event provides the Fellows with an opportunity to meet the University president and to discuss their research interests with one another.
Co-Sponsored by the FSU Graduate School, Congress of Graduate Students, FSU Alumni Association, Center for Global Engagement, FSU School of Communication, FSU Circus, FSU Alumni Village, FSU Athletic Department, FSU Rez, and the Eclectic Acoustic Band.
The Carnival at the Rez event on October 1, 2013 had lots of family-friendly activities, especially for children. There was live music, FSU Circus performers, face painting, crafts, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, soft drinks, ice cream, and many Rez activities (swimming, ping pong, kayaking, canoeing, beach volleyball.)
New fellowship holders are welcomed into the Fellows Society by the Dean of The Graduate School at an induction ceremony and orientation that takes place at the beginning of each fall semester. During the ceremony, current Fellows provide each new member with a Fellows Society Pin, which is worn to all Fellows Society events. An interactive training workshop, designed for both new and returning Fellows, takes place after the ceremony and provides fellows with the opportunity to network and discuss their research.
The Program for Instructional Excellence (PIE) sponsors University-wide graduate student teaching assistant orientations each fall and spring semester. During these orientations, graduate students are introduced to FSU teaching resources, policies, and best practices for teaching and learning.

The Florida State University honored the achievements of its graduate students at the annual Celebration of Graduate Student Excellence on April 17that the Florida State Alumni Center. This event sponsored by The Graduate School, the Office of Research, and the Congress of Graduate Students, recognizes FSU’s graduate students for excellence in teaching, research and creativity, and leadership.
On March 22, Fellows, student Veterans, faculty and staff gathered for the 2013 Fellows Forum, "Reintegrating Veterans into Civilian Life: An Interdisciplinary Discussion," which included presentations on the history of veterans affairs and current research into issues of veteran's reintegration. Fellows engaged in discussions with faculty from Classics, History, Philosophy, Social Work, Psychology, and Engineering in efforts to develop solutions to complex real world problems through interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration.
The FSU Graduate School hosted the 10th Annual Vietnam Education Foundation Fellows & Scholars Conference (January 3-5, 2013). The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) is an independent U.S. Federal Government agency created by the U.S. Congress. The mission of VEF is to strengthen the U.S.-Vietnam bilateral relationship through educational exchanges in STEM fields. FSU is one of the U.S. partner institutions for the Vietnam Education Foundation Fellowship, which brings Vietnamese nationals to the United States for graduate study.
The Graduate School welcomed new graduate students to FSU on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Presentations were given by FSU faculty, staff, and administrators throughout the day and an informational fair was held under the HCB Breezeway, with over 30 campus and community organizations in attendance. This event was sponsored by the Congress of Graduate Students and Seminole Dining, who provided a BBQ lunch.
