Each year a small group of our most outstanding graduate students are designated as University and Presidential Fellows. The Fellows Society brings together current and past fellowship recipients to network and foster interaction across disciplines.

Graduate School Fellowships
Council of Graduate Schools Resolution
All students receiving funding from the University (e.g. Fellowship or Assistantship) will be held to the stipulations put forward by the Council of Graduate Schools resolution regarding accepting awards. Please view the attached document for the full resolution. (pdf 29.35 kB)
University and Presidential Fellowships
The University Fellowship Program is a University-wide competition, open to new and continuing PhD students. The University Fellowship provides a stipend of $19,000 to each student plus a tuition waiver of up to twelve hours for the Fall and Spring terms.
Some University Fellowships are designated Presidential University Fellowships and are awarded to graduate students who are newly admitted to a Ph.D. program or a Ph.D. track. These awards are multi-year and provide a stipend of $24,000 for the first and fourth year, plus a tuition waiver of up to twelve hours for the Fall and Spring terms, funded by the Graduate School. The second and third year stipends and tuition waivers are funded by the department at award levels determined by the sponsoring department.
Both the Presidential and University Fellowships carry a health insurance supplement ($1,250 per student per academic year), which fully covers the purchase of the University-sponsored student single coverage health insurance plan. Presidential University Fellows receive this fully paid University health insurance plan for the entire length of their fellowship.

College Teaching Fellowships
The College Teaching Fellowships are awarded annually by the University to new graduate students. While these awards are administered by The Graduate School, the Fellows are selected through competitions held by each college. The base stipend is $6,300, though some colleges and departments may supplement this award. Fellows also receive a $400 subsidy towards the purchase of the University sponsored health insurance plan.
To be eligible for the College Teaching Fellowship, the student must have scored at least an 1150 on the GRE (or its equivalent on another appropriate measure); maintained at least a 3.2 GPA during the course of undergraduate studies; maintained at least a 3.5 GPA during the course of any previous graduate level studies (previous graduate level studies not required for consideration under these fellowships); and have been strongly recommended by former professors.
The duties assigned each Fellow will be decided by the nominating college or department. Depending on the level of duty, nine to twelve hours of graduate tuition will be awarded by the department or college.

International Dissertation Semester Research Fellowship
The International Dissertation Semester Research Fellowship carries a $7,000 stipend, plus tuition waivers, for advanced doctoral students. These prestigious international fellowships for advanced doctoral students are offered by the Graduate School to facilitate research and timely completion of the doctoral degree that requires extended research-time abroad. Recipients must enroll for a minimum of nine dissertation hours during the research semester. Recipients must conduct research abroad for the duration of the fellowship. The deadline for the International Dissertation Semester Research Fellowship is January 18, 2010.

Leslie N. Wilson - Delores Auzenne Assistantship for Minorities
The Leslie N. Wilson-Delores Auzenne Assistantship for Minorities is available for all new or currently enrolled minority graduate students. Nomination is through the department or college, but competition for these awards is on a university-wide basis. Criteria for the award can be found here (pdf 91.81 kB). The stipend is a minimum of $5,000 per academic year plus tuition waivers. Assistants also receive a $400 subsidy towards the purchase of the University sponsored health insurance plan.

McKnight Doctoral Fellowship
These fellowships provide up to five years of support, with a stipend of $12,000 plus tuition waivers and other support for four years and with the fifth year support at a rate that is typical in the student's academic program. Fellows also receive a $400 subsidy towards the purchase of the University sponsored health insurance plan.This is a state-wide program administered through the Florida Education Fund (FEF). Applications are available on the FEF website. Gubernatorial Fellows
The Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program provides leadership training to outstanding Florida graduate and undergraduate students interested in public service. Preference will be given to graduate students. By immersing students in key areas of government, including the Executive Office of the Governor and the Governor’s agencies, students will receive first-hand, on-the-job training as well as valuable high-level experience and insight on government and how it works. Florida State University Fellows also receive a $400 subsidy towards the purchase of the University sponsored health insurance plan.
The following 14 students have been selected as the fifth Gubernatorial Fellows class:
Andrea Arce-Trigatti, 22, of Tallahassee, graduate student in international affairs at Florida State University. She holds bachelor's degrees in history, international affairs, and Latin American and Caribbean studies from Florida State University.
Jennifer Campbell, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, a graduate student in international affairs at Florida State University. She holds a bachelor's degree in international affairs from Florida State University.
Terin Barbas, 24, of Tampa, third-year law student pursuing a combined master's degree in business administration at Florida State University. She holds a bachelor's of business administration from the University of Notre Dame.
Ian Dankelman, 21, of Jacksonville, senior in political science and history at Florida State University.
Thomas Philpot, 25, of Pensacola, second-year law student at Florida State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Florida.
Chris Tanner, 29, of Tampa, third-year law student at Florida State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Florida State University.
Eric Boulware, 22, of Gainesville, senior in finance at the University of Florida.
Hugh W. Brown, Jr., 29, of Miami, graduate student in international economics at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University. He holds bachelor's degrees in history and international affairs from Florida State University.
Sarah Criser, 22, of Coral Gables, graduate student in political communication and campaigning at the University of Florida. She holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Florida.
Herron Gaston, 22, of Haines City, graduate student in political science from Florida A&M University. He holds a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's degree in political science/pre-law studies from Florida A&M University.
Timothy Mason, 20, of Orlando, senior in political science from the University of Central Florida.
Disraeli Smith, 21, of Atlanta, Georgia, fourth-year professional MBA student at Florida A&M University.
Jarrid Smith, 24, of the Brighton Seminole Reservation, graduate student in communication and multimedia studies at Florida Atlantic University. He holds bachelor's degrees in political science, communication and multimedia studies from Florida Atlantic University.
Ryan Todd, 23, of Jupiter, second-year law student at the University of Florida. He holds bachelor's degrees in political science and philosophy from Duke University.
Please note that the 2009 program inclusive dates have changed to August 17, 2009 - May 14, 2010. This important and final timeline change will enhance the Gubernatorial Fellows Program by giving our students exposure to the regular legislative session.
